2020 Organisation

As you know we have begun the organisation of the school for next year. There are three areas that families are involved in at this stage:

  • Future Planning Forms

This is the form that indicates that your child/ren will be returning for 2020. This form is due back by Friday September 20th.

  • Class Placement

We invite parents to share any relevant information about the placement of their child/ren for next year’s classes. This must be put in writing to the principal by Friday September 27th. (See Week 4 newsletter for further details)

  • Student input

Before the end of term students will have an opportunity to name some students they would like to be with next year. We will make every effort to place students with at least one person on their list.

6 CP News

This term the two year 6 classes have been working together to investigate the mathematics present in a variety of sports.

Their investigation is a part of the Primary Mathematics Association 'Powerful Learners Mathematics and Numeracy Challenge', a statewide competition that promotes students appreciation of the scope of mathematics in their lives and their creative and critical thinking skills. Our students thoroughly enjoyed working together collaboratively and were able to conclude that there is a lot of mathematics in not only sport, but also their day to day lives.

Director's Day

Twice each term the Principals of Catholic Schools in South Australia gather for a full day to discuss relevant issues that affect our system of schools. The big news was the announcement of a new Catholic school.

News that Xavier College will build another campus at Two Wells has been met with a positive response from families in the local area wanting a Catholic education for their children. Earlier this month Catholic Education South Australia (CESA) announced it would open its newest school at Two Wells in 2021. The school, which will be located in the Hickinbotham Group’s Liberty Estate housing development, will initially cater for students from Reception to Year 6 but will progressively cater for students up to Year 12.

APPA Conference

Lisa and I attended the 2019 Australian Primary Principals Association National Conference, held in Adelaide last week. The key focus of our learning was on how collaboration, connection and community can support us to lead in new ways and strengthen our current ways of working.

The program offered the opportunity to come together to experience innovative practice based on contemporary educational thinking. The goal is that together we will grow our knowledge, connections and support to build an even stronger and more vibrant community of primary school leaders. Leaders that make a difference in their community, undertake intentional work with a commitment to children’s wellbeing, growth and achievement.  The 2019 APPA Conference brought together principals and leaders from across Australia representing Government, Catholic and Independent sectors.

Safety Alert

A mother and pre-school child were inappropriately approached by an older man at Coles this week. The police have been informed. It is a timey reminder to keep a close eye on your children in shopping centres and other public places, also to remind your children about stranger danger.

Robotics

Congratulations to our team of Reception students (Cooper, Barnaby, Lachie, Jess & Brandon) who came second in the RoboCup Junior.  I attended their first performance where the “oohs” and “ahhs” from the crowd of adults and fellow competitors (who were all 10yo+) was quite audible as our young group hit the stage and performed magnificently.

National Gardening Week

National Gardening Week offers a wonderful opportunity to celebrate the simple joys of gardening and to highlight the associated environmental, social, spiritual and health benefits. This year the focus of National Gardening Week is on children with the aim of nurturing and inspiring the next generation of gardeners. We will be celebrating National Gardening Week here at Rosary School on the 16th October (Wednesday Week 1, Term 4). Classes will be invited to come and pot some herbs to take home and grow. This is directly connected to our Catholic Identity and understanding around Pope Francis’ call to ‘care for our common home.’ Clearly in the Australian curriculum there is an explicit focus on sustainability. What better way to help children understand both our faith and learning by participating in National Gardening Week.
