Week 4 Term 4 2021
Dear Rosary Community
What an exciting couple of weeks we have just had!
Some of the opportunities children have had to learn and grow at Rosary School in the past two weeks have included: Sporting Schools’ Gymnastics, Year 3 and 4 Water Safety Swimming Program, Year 5 Surf Life Saving Day, Year 6 Wellbeing Day, National Bandana Day, SACPSSA Athletics Carnival, exploring new books at the Book Fair, celebrating Mass of the Roses as a whole school community back in our Parish Church and being 2022 Children’s University Graduates.
Facebook provides us with the opportunity to share these activities with the wider community instantly, however I would like to use the school newsletter to thank everyone in our school community who facilitate and support these events. Without the dedication of our staff and parents we would be unable to provide these wonderful experiences.
Congratulations to our Children’s University Graduates – Amelia, Henry, Crissa, Alessia, Veronica, Ella, Tahlia, Noah, Eiyani, Layla, Ethan, Nicholas, Alissiya, Charlotte and Isabel.
It was delightful to see you receive your graduation certificates at Bonython Hall in your academic cap and gown. Thank you to Pia Totani Cirocco and Katherine Turner for their work in co-ordinating Children’s University at Rosary School.
Today and tomorrow I am attending the Catholic Education Leaders Forum. This is an opportunity to work with other school principals and CESA staff and continue my professional development. I hope you have a great end of the week and enjoy your weekend.
Susan
The Master Plan Committee would like to provide the school community with an update on the progress of the Master Plan being developed for Rosary School.

Friday the 5th of November is Outdoor Classroom Day. This day is a global movement to make time outdoors part of every child’s day – giving them an opportunity to play and learn in the natural world around them.
In celebration of Outdoor Classroom Day, RSM along with the other Reception classes, spent the day outside immersing themselves in a range of outdoor activities. Students participated in water painting, making birdfeeders, nature collection & art, clay making and more! Students enjoyed the beautiful day outside and taking in all of nature’s creations, wonders and treasures.
We aim to spend more time outside as the weather warms up to instil in our students a love of the natural world around them and for them to take part in future actions in looking after and protecting God’s world.
Our 6 students were fortunate to spend a day doing a range of activities with a focus on wellbeing.
The activities were designed to bring awareness of the importance of mental health and wellbeing, to equip students with meaningful strategies to support their mental health and wellbeing, to provide students with skills and confidence to self-seek help for early intervention and to identify where students can seek support for their mental health and wellbeing.
The children participated in a Mandala workshop, Worry Doll and Worry stones workshop, a Tree of Life workshop and a Hand Scrub making workshop.
We are grateful to have had Mr Crisanti and some of the Blackfriars’ senior students for sharing their experiences and what to expect in high school which support mental health and wellbeing. A big thank you to Sonia De Vito, Sita and Maria for organising a fun and rewarding day as they prepare their students for high school in 2022.
In Religion, our Reception students have been learning about “Mary” as they prepared for the Mass of the Roses.
They celebrated Mary Mother of God through their artwork.
Our Year 2 children celebrated a beautiful Liturgy at Rosary Church this morning. They reflected on their amazing year at school and prayed for all of their amazing learning opportunities prepared by their fabulous teachers, giving thanks for a year of fun and learning.
Thank you to Father Paul, our families who were able to join us, our Year 2 teachers on preparing their students so beautifully and of course, our wonderful children for their active participation.
A stunning sight of roses and Rosary Beads being blessed by Father Paul was the highlight of our whole School Mass celebrating the Mass of the Roses last week. It was an opportunity to gather together as a school community to honour Mary, Mother of God and Queen of the Rosary. Thank you to Father Paul, classroom teachers, families and our amazing students who sang so beautifully.
We had a wonderful day at the Glenelg Surf Life Saving Club.
The P&F are thrilled to announce the final amount raised at the "Show us your Colours" Trivia and Games Night.....drum roll $11,925. Thank you to everyone for your extreme generosity. Sita Catalano has already put this money to good use purchasing 12 Dash & Dot Robots as part of the Digital Technology curriculum.
Our Year 3 students have had their first lesson with the Dash and Dot, they have linked the bots to their iPads and used coding to create commands. The students have explored how this technology can be used to create solutions and come up with some excellent ideas. We look forward to seeing the children develop their skills in this area.
Year 3 Learning intention:
- To safely explore the Dash and Dot robots.
- To identify how this technology can be used to create a solution.
Year 3 Success criteria:
- I can safely handle the Dash and Dot robots.
- I can link Dash and Dot to my iPad and ask it to follow 2 or more commands.
- I can discuss how this robot could be used to help others.
