Week 2 Term 3 2023
Dear Rosary Community
This term we welcomed 26 new children to our community and 12 new families.
When I visit classes all the children seem very settled in their new environment. I hope all of our new families feel very welcomed – do not hesitate to reach out if you have any concerns or questions. I encourage new parents to complete the volunteer paperwork. We rely on parent support for many school events. Please see Margaret Moshos in the front office for support with this process.
My office is full of wonderful donations for the Quiz Night on Saturday 12 August. Thank you everyone for your generosity. There are still a few tickets available. You are able to buy a single ticket and join an existing table. It is another great way to engage and make community connections. I hope to see you there!
On Tuesday you received an invitation to engage in the LLL Survey to provide feedback about Rosary School. The feedback assists in setting 2024 annual improvement goals aligned to our Strategic Plan. All surveys are anonymous. Attached is the NSI Partnerships Flyer providing additional information. I encourage parents to spend five minutes tonight to complete the survey – please go to: www.NSIPartnerships.com.au and enter the code RSLLLP.
Thank you for your time and feedback.

Planning for 2024 is well underway and, as part of this process, we require accurate enrolment data to finalise the school structure and staffing requirements. If you are not intending for your child/ren to remain at Rosary School in 2023, please email karin.skinner@rosary.catholic.edu.au. Withdrawal of a student during a term or at the completion of the academic year will require at least one term’s notice. Failure to provide a term’s notice will result in fees being charged for the following term. This is in recognition of the fact that the School is committed to maintain the employment of teachers on the basis of known enrolments from one term to the next.
We are also currently finalising Reception placement for 2025. If you have pre-school aged children, please complete an enrolment form. You can collect an enrolment form from the front office or download from our school website.
Thank you for your support in providing accurate information for our planning.
Kind regards
Susan
Walk a Mile in My Boots
Our Year 5/6 students, supported by their teachers and parent volunteers, will join in solidarity with thousands of other South Australians in promoting the incredible work done by the Hutt Street Centre on Wednesday, August 9. They will walk for a mile along Prospect Road, adding to the 70,000 miles walked by others engaged in the 'Walk a Mile in my Boots' fundraiser. Our students' aim is to ensure that the Hutt Street Centre can continue its work advocating and supporting the 7,000 people experiencing homelessness in our State.
The challenges faced by homeless women, men and children in our community are innumerable and it is incumbent upon us to do all that we can to reduce this suffering in our midst.
I know that our Year 5/6 students will be very positive ambassadors for our school community with their impeccable behaviour, as well as providing very positive messaging regarding the work of the Hutt Street Centre.
We encourage all members of our community to support the work of the Hutt Street Centre financially during this campaign.
Please click on this link https://www.walkamile.org.au/fundraisers/stephencampion challenge-23 to make a financial donation and support our Year 5/6 students and their teachers next Wednesday and to provide assistance to the Hutt Street Centre.
The Feast of St Dominic
We will celebrate our charism as a Dominican community and our commitment to living our lives in accordance with the four pillars of prayer, study, community and ministry through celebrating the Feast of St Dominic on Thursday, August 10. The Feast Day of St Dominic is August 8 and we will celebrate this with Mass at Our Lady of the Rosary Parish Church at 9:15am on August 10 and all members of our community are welcome to join us.
As we reflect on the life and example of St Dominic, we will have a special celebration for our students and staff during lunchtime on this day.
We have now completed our preparation sessions for our students receiving the Sacraments of Confirmation and First Holy Communion.
On Tuesday night, we were hosted by Blackfriars Priory School as students from St Dominic's, Blackfriars, students from our Parish and Rosary School completed their preparation for the Sacrament of First Holy Communion. This followed the preparation session for Confirmation which took place last Tuesday evening.
Rosary School has twenty-nine students who will receive the Sacraments of First Holy Communion and Confirmation in 2023. We have enjoyed accompanying these students on their sacramental journey so far, as they move closer to receiving the sacraments on the weekend of August 26/27.

The local Vinnies team would like to extend their sincere gratitude to the Rosary School community for their outstanding efforts supporting the Winter Appeal. We have enough food, for hampers, to get us through the remaining Winter months. The many beanies, socks and other items of clothing have already been distributed to those in need via Fred's Van in Gawler Place, Adelaide. Many, many thanks from the local Vinnies Conference.
Our Lady of Rosary Parish Bric a Brac
In advance of the weekend of 13-14 August, if you have any donations please drop off at Parish Office on Barker Rd 8344 1347
3TR have come back from their holidays bursting with ideas. In Digital Technologies we are using algorithms and branching, to write texts which give the reader choice. The students have all written their holiday recount and presented these using power points. You, as the reader, can choose and read what you would like to hear about! Our next challenge will be to write a simple Choose Your Own Adventure text.
In Visual Arts, the students have been learning about abstract art. They used Australian Artists like Deb McNaughton and Hayley Mischief Lord to inspire their own abstract creations. An important aspect of being an artist is deciding where and how your artworks are displayed and naming your artworks. The students chose names and decided how their works were to be displayed in the classroom.
We have been asked to write Student Voice Postcards to the Commissioner for Children and Young People about the things that matter to them. Some responses were:
The best thing about being a kid…
- Eating fancy food
- Is being loved
- Is being able to enjoy life
- Not having to worry about work or money
- Is spending time with family and friends
I wish grown ups would…
- spend more time with me
- go to the park with me more
- watch movies together
- have more family time
- listen more
- go on more family holidays
Showdown Donut Day
Friday July 29 was Special Treat Friday. With hot chocolates not available this year, we wanted to do something fun for the students.
Thanks to Vilis, the Showdown donuts were a delicious success.
343 donuts were ordered and just like the showdown, Crows came out on top. 217 Crows and 126 Port donuts were delivered with lots of smiles and excitement.
We hope everyone enjoyed them.
