Week 4 Term 3 2024
I hope you have all had some time to enjoy the recent sunny weather – such a welcomed change!
SACPSSA Cross Country Carnival
Last Wednesday, 87 students from Rosary School proudly participated in the SACPSSA Cross Country Carnival. We are immensely proud of their enthusiasm and remarkable sportsmanship throughout the event. A standout moment was when one of our Year 4 students, in a true act of kindness, paused her own race to help a runner from another school who had fallen—what a wonderful display of sportsmanship!
A special congratulations to Piper from Year 3 for earning a silver medal by placing second in the Year 3 Girls Division A race. Hudson, also from Year 3, secured a well-deserved third place in the Year 3 Boys Division A. Additionally, our Year 6 Girls were crowned champions of the overall Division A category.
A big thank you to Mr. Brenton Campbell for his excellent organisation and to the teachers and parents for their invaluable support.
Celebrating the Feast of St Dominic
Last Thursday, August 8, our whole school community came together for a significant Mass to honour our Patron Saint, St. Dominic, with Fr Mannes as the celebrant. Interestingly, August 8 is also the universal feast day for St. Mary MacKillop, Australia’s first saint. Since her canonisation on October 17, 2010, her feast day was set to this date, which coincidentally created a scheduling dilemma in the liturgical calendar due to the abundance of saints and limited days in the year. As a result, in Australia, St. Dominic's feast day was moved to August 3. As we know, St. Dominic is known for founding the Dominican Order and his deep devotion to the rosary, which we will further celebrate with the ‘Mass of the Roses’ in September.
The celebrations continued with engaging classroom activities and a school-wide sausage sizzle. A big thank you to our fantastic APRIM, Mr. Campion, for his coordination, Mr. D’Angelo for showcasing his BBQ talents, and our dedicated volunteers for their humble service to our community. It was a special day for everyone to reflect and celebrate our shared values of the Dominican tradition; to be faithful and search for truth through study, community, ministry, and prayer.
Walk a Mile in My Boots
My highlight of last week was participating in the annual Year 5/6 ‘Walk a Mile in My Boots’ along Prospect Road to support the Hutt Street Centre. The energy was incredible, with our students making their presence known by enthusiastically chanting, ‘Honk, honk for Hutt Street!’ This community event plays a vital role in raising awareness about homelessness and the growing need for essential services like nutritious meals, laundry access, medical care, and hot showers for those facing hardship in our community. Since last winter, the demand for these critical services at the Hutt Street Centre has more than doubled. I am grateful to everyone who contributed. This event is just one of the many social justice initiatives our school is proud to support, reflecting the core of our Dominican theme this year, ‘Loving Service to All.’
Naming of buildings
As we move towards the completion of our building works, we are now in a process of consultation about the naming of each building. In order to support our Catholic identity and Dominican spirituality, with our sense of community and history at the centre, Susan recently met with the Dominican Sisters of North Adelaide and the North Adelaide / Prospect Parish Pastoral Council to discuss the names. The names that have been put forward are as follows:
New building (currently for Receptions, Years 5 and Year 6) – Dominican Building
Existing classrooms (currently for Years 1/2/3/4) – Rosary Building
Existing administrative building (office, first aid room and staffroom) – Administration (Admin) Building

Landscaping
Finally, what a delight it is to see some greenery in the school yard! I am very excited to watch the upcoming developments unfold…. the wait will definitely be worth it, it is looking amazing! Thank you again for your patience and understanding.

The Feast Day of St Dominic
As a community, we celebrated our Dominican heritage and St Dominic with a Mass at Our Lady of the Rosary Church on Thursday August 8 at 9:30am. Many family members joined us for this special community celebration. We thank Fr Mannes for celebrating Mass with us.
After we returned to class after the mass, we had a sausage sizzle as part of our celebrations on the day.
Walk A Mile In My Boots
On Friday, August 9, our Year 5 & Year 6 students accompanied by their teachers and some of our parents walked for 1km from Rosary School to Blackfriars School and back in their support of the Hutt Street Centre and its work supporting those who are homeless in Adelaide.
Our students were wonderful ambassadors for Rosary School with their positive enthusiasm for the Hutt Street Centre and for their impeccable behaviour as they moved through the centre of Prospect.
Thank you to all of our families who made an online donation to the Hutt Street Centre.
GEM Awards
At every school assembly, we distribute GEM certificates as part of our work with the Resilience Project. Students receive an award if they have been nominated by a teacher for displaying gratitude, empathy or mindfulness in their daily interactions.
It is always wonderful to celebrate our students, especially when they are acting on what they have covered on class during their Resilience Project work.
Stephen Campion
APRIM
Since the start of Term 3, 3HB as young mathematicians have been investigating the exciting world of data! Our class has explored how to collect, organize, and represent data in a fun and engaging way.
Students have been gathering data on the class and we have discovered our most popular birthday month and the class’s favourite sport to play. We have then used this data to create colourful and informative data displays. With each graph created their enthusiasm has grown as they have discovered impactful and informative insights into their created data.
It has been a fantastic term of learning and exploration; I have been very proud to see the 3HB students grow in their understanding of data and their eagerness to learn.
