Week 8 Term 2 2021
Dear Rosary Community
On Friday 11th June, the staff commenced working with Lisa-Jane O’Connor from the Primary Maths Association. We are currently reviewing our Mathematics teaching and learning and looking to establish some agreed practices at Rosary School. We believe that:
- children should have seven years of congruent mathematics learning with a consistency of mathematical language and mathematical learning experiences; and
- given the right environment and a child’s engagement, all children can experience success as a mathematics learner.
We will continue to work with Lisa-Jane for the remainder of this year and again in 2022 to ensure continuous improvement in our mathematics teaching and children’s learning. I thank Annabel Parletta and Seva Maitianos for their work in organising this professional learning.
Yesterday we welcomed 25 new Mid-Year Reception children and their families who will be joining us in Term 3. The children have the opportunity to attend three orientation sessions to meet their teachers Mrs Amy Ramsey and Miss Fiona MacDonald and familiarise themselves with the school environment. The parents also gathered to learn a little more about Rosary School.
Today the Reception children left on their excursion to Monarto Zoo. I thank their teachers and the parent volunteers for the work they do to provide these wonderful learning opportunities for the children here at Rosary.
Regards
Susan
Sacrament Program
Currently, there are 22 Rosary students preparing to receive the Sacraments of Confirmation and Eucharist, together with students from Blackfriars, St. Dominic’s and the Parish. As part of our commitment to a 'Family Centred' approach, candidates and their families have attended two workshops conducted at Blackfriars in preparation for this. The Year 4 teachers and I will also hold a ‘Sacrament Day’ next Thursday, 24th June with the students to compliment the workshops and in the lead up to the Sacrament Liturgy / Masses the following weekend, including a visit to the Church with Father Paul.
I ask that you keep these students in your prayers.
A reminder of dates:
Confirmation will be conferred to Rosary students on Saturday 26th June at 10am in the Rosary Church.
Students receiving the Eucharist for the first time have chosen one of the following parish Masses:
Saturday 26th June 6pm
Sunday 27th June 10am or 5:30pm
Saturday 3rd June 6pm
Sunday 4th July 10am or 5:30pm
The Gospel from last Sunday, the 11th Sunday in Ordinary time, is focused on the ‘Parable of the Mustard Seed’ when Jesus compares the Kingdom of Heaven to plants that grow up from tiny seeds.
Though it was the smallest of seeds, once sown the mustard plant sprang up and spread rapidly. The parable’s metaphor about small things having a large impact encourages us to do our part, no matter how little it seems, and to trust that God will bless and multiply our effort. The parable also reminds us that when we love God, our love continues to grow so that we can share that love to others so they too can scatter some seeds of love and the Kingdom of God to many people.
Below is an interesting reflection about a ‘tiny seed’ …..
A tiny seed.
Inside there is a plan,
A hope, a dream of great possibilites.
Within a small seed of faith,
Resides all the power of God.
Plant the seed. Water it carefully, lovingly,
Than let the Lord take control.
In even just a shred of faith in God
You'll find promises-
Of Christ's victory in your life,
Of faith moving mountains,
Of the resurection,
And heavenly destination.
Life eternal begins today.
Start living it now.
Then join with others living in the Spirit,
Each one giving all through a grain of faith
Countless mountains, moving across nations
Building up the glorious Kingdom of God.
Last week we received 3 chicks as well as 12 eggs in an incubator. The eggs hatched and we enjoyed observing them. We had to make sure that they had fresh water, chick starter and a warm light globe to keep them warm. We learnt about the "Life Cycle of a Chicken".
On Friday they will be leaving us and going to live on a farm. We will miss them!
