News from the Principal

Wednesday 27th January, 2021

Dear Rosary Community

It is with much excitement that I commence 2021 as your school Principal. I look forward to meeting and getting to know all the students and their families. I have lots of names to learn!

On Wednesday 20 January the staff had the opportunity to gather off-site for spiritual formation. During the day we explore our theme “Together at the Table” through the Dominican pillar of Prayer. We spoke about how we as a staff are called to be welcoming and inclusive to all. We are extremely fortunate to be joined by Fr Paul Rankin and we thank him for his commitment and leadership at Rosary School.

I would also like to thank Caroline Price and Lisa McCormick for their planning of the day.

Tuesday 26th January, 2021

On Monday 1st February 2021 Brainstorm Productions will be presenting their student wellbeing performance ‘Buddies’ for Reception to Year 6 classes at Rosary School.
‘Buddies’ is a live educational theatre performance that follows the journey of Lucy and Charlie as they discover the secrets to building positive friendships and staying safe online. Lucy is impulsive and breaks the rules to try to fit in.
Charlie is being bullied, but he's afraid to stand up for himself and show his true feelings.
As players in an exciting virtual reality video game, Charlie and Lucy must co-operate to navigate the cyber chamber, overcome the forces of Aggrator, earn the eight Friendship Discs and restore the Ancient Ring of Friendship.

They learn important lessons about online safety, such as not sharing passwords, not talking to strangers, protecting their privacy on apps and games and asking for help if something makes them feel uncomfortable.
Together they discover that a true friend is someone who is kind, tells the truth, listens, helps you feel safe and allows you to be yourself.

New Performing Arts Curriculum for 2021

Thursday 10th December, 2020

Dear Parents,

We would like to advise about changes to the specialist teaching areas for 2021.

In response to the consultation received from staff, school board and students during the process of advertising for a new Principal, together with other feedback from both existing families and new enrolments, we have reviewed the specialist offerings.
This feedback highlighted the need to provide more in the curriculum area of Performing Arts.

Therefore it has been decided to introduce a specialist teacher for Performing Arts in 2021 alongside PE, Italian and Library.

Year 6 Graduating Classes of 2020

Thursday 3rd December, 2020

For our year 6 graduating classes you have been resilient and adaptable!

It has been said that it is not our abilities that show who we truly are, it is the choices we make – this is especially true when viewed through the lens of our 2020 Theme: 'A Heart that Sees'.

Being a student of Rosary School means being part of a community of strong, creative and caring people. As a group of year 6 student leaders, you have embodied a heart that sees in your wonderful leadership:

• Looking after our younger students - taking the time to mentor some of our reception       students - teaching them how to play and solve friendship issues

• Introducing the kindness awards and being role models by living out acts of kindness

• When the Black Lives Matter movement rose up this year across the world, you wanted to explore the issues and see what actions we could take as a community to ensure inclusivity

• Participating in the Hutt Street ‘Walk a mile in my Boots’
